2009/2010 Reflections Program
Program Overview
The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works.
The 2009-2010 Reflections theme is: “Beauty is...”
Attention Aviation High School Students! What does “Beauty Is…” mean to you? Write about it, draw it, paint it, take a picture of it, make music about it, dance to it or create a film about it and submit it for this years’ 40th Annual National PTA Reflections contest. Entries must be an original work and will be judged on creative ability and interpretation of the theme in the Senior Division (grades 9-12) in the following categories:
Literature—works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, short stories and lyrics.
Musical Composition—original musical composition, with or without words.
Photography—prints up to 11 x 14 inches in color or black and white, including techniques: photogram, retouched, montage, sandwich and multiple exposure.
Visual Arts—drawing, painting in tempera, oil, acrylic, watercolor & t-shirt paints, computer generated art, two-dimensional collage, printmaking, needlework & leather tooling. Works of art must be flat and may not exceed more than 3/8” thickness. Artwork may not exceed 24” x 30” including matting.
Film/Video production—original works, with or without sound, of animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or music video/film.
Dance/Choreography—originally choreographed dance composition (recorded on VHS tape or DVD).
Submissions will be collected in the main office the week of November 16th. Friday, November 20th at 2:00 PM is the last day to turn in any entries. Entries turned in after 2:00 PM on November 20th will not be judged. All AHS participants will receive recognition, certificate, prize & catered lunch. Finalist entries (up to 4 per category) will go on to the Highline Council level of the competition with their celebration taking place on January 25, 2010 from 7-8:30pm at the Highline Performing Arts Center.
