2010/2011 Reflections Program

Program Overview
The Reflections Program is a National PTA and Washington State PTA cultural arts competition. The purpose of this program is to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works.

The 2010-2011 Reflections theme is: “Together We Can”

Write about it, draw it, paint it, take a picture of it, make music about it, dance to it or create a film about it and submit it for this years’ National PTA Reflections contest. Entries must be an original work and will be judged on creative ability and interpretation of the theme in the Senior Division (grades 9-12) in the following categories:

Literature—works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, prose, drama, short stories and lyrics.
Musical Compositionoriginal musical composition, with or without words.
Photographyprints up to 11 x 14 inches in color or black and white, including techniques: photogram, retouched, montage, sandwich and multiple exposure.
Visual Artsdrawing, painting in tempera, oil, acrylic, watercolor & t-shirt paints, computer generated art, two-dimensional collage, printmaking, needlework & leather tooling. Works of art must be flat and may not exceed more than 3/8” thickness. Artwork may not exceed 24” x 30” including matting.
Film/Video productionoriginal works, with or without sound, of animation, narrative, documentary, experimental or music video/film.
Dance/Choreographyoriginally choreographed dance composition (recorded on VHS tape or DVD).

Submissions will be collected in the main office the week of November 15th. Friday, November 19th at 2:00 PM is the last day to turn in any entries. Entries turned in after 2:00 PM on November 19th will not be judged. All AHS participants will receive recognition, certificate, prize & catered lunch. Finalist entries (up to 4 per category) will go on to the Highline Council level of the competition with their celebration taking place in January at the Highline Performing Arts Center.
